Double Bed Jacquard, Superba Style

As I mentioned in my very first post on this blog, reversible jacquard is the holy grail of jacquard knitting for a lot of machine knitters. And for good reason! If you are making, say, a blanket or a scarf, what could be more perfect than a fabric that, 1) doesn't roll up like stockinette, 2) looks good on both sides, and 3) has the SAME DESIGN on both sides? Nothing, really. Oh, and of course, no floats. There are certainly some lovely jacquard methods that can be knit on almost any machine. My SK360 does a fine job, but your only option is stripes on the back: Here's some boats. Stripes on the back. M'eh. I have come to know this is called "slip jacquard". Lace Knitting

Look at me with the multiple posts in a week. ;) Well since I was already in the groove of making a video for garter stitch, I thought I'd add another video on knitting lace on your Superba machine. The process of knitting lace is really quite simple, it's just a matter of getting to know your machine, and your transfer carriage, so it will play along. Firstly, you really don't want to attempt this for the first time without the instruction manual for the GLTC (garter lace transfer carriage). There's a lot of checking and re-checking things as you go. I don't have a hard copy of it, but the copy that is available here is the one that has the most useful set of instructions. The main points to remember when knitting lace are: Again, check your needles, as bent latches will cause trouble The knitting is always hanging on the FRONT bed, selected stitches only will knit on the back bed You need the GLTC (not the regular transfer carriage) and a working pattern...

Polymer Clay!

Sorry, I know it's been forever since I posted, but I have started 6 posts and not finished them. I will blog the other knitting things I've been up to, I promise. Just...not now. My newest obsession is polymer clay. I'll spare you the long, drawn-out hoopla about why I wanted to try it, but it is a lot like working with fondant, which I miss about my cake-making days. Recently I decided I couldn't wait anymore, I had to try it NOW! And I'm so glad I did! My first project was a pair of donut earrings. (Yes I know it's doughnut, but my stupid phone doesn't accept that, so I've come over to the dark side of D-O-N-U-T.) Here is the result of my first attempt: Super adorable, I think. They look like Simpsons donuts, which is what I was going for. But obviously they don't look very realistic. My mother commented on my photo that she wanted a pair. I thought I should make them a little different so we weren't twinsies, and watched a few tutoria...
